Why pink?

This shade of pink is the Pantone Color of the Year, Living Coral. It is intended to highlight the precarious situation our ecosystem is in. Further, pink is falsely believed to be a “feminine color”—in reality, colors are only socially associated with gender. Pink used to be considered a masculine color. The current color–gender association grew out of the 1950s, where hospitals used blue and pink to identify newborns’ sex. Learn about Living Coral » or social gender–color association »
